But with a virtually unlimited budget and some of the sharpest minds in the racing business, the 917 became unbeatable. The 917 was Porsche’s first demonstration of the turbo charging art and the 1100bhp Can-Am 917/30 remains one of the most powerful racing cars of all time. Rather than produce a dry technical account of what happened, I wrote this book in a deliberately readable style. I used many previously unpublished photographs from Porsche’s own archives and from the same archive used by Autosport and Motor Sport.
